Le Mans 2000 Ayse's Story

Page 9 - Saturday 17th June - The Wonderful 'Welcome' Building

I 'discovered' the 'Welcome' building back in 1997 and it immediately became one of my favourite places at Le Mans and one which I was determined to visit both during the day and later during the night.  As the years moved on, the circuit had gained more and more debris fencing making photography for the amateur photographer more and more difficult.  Here was a place where you could get up above the cars and get some decent shots without fencing in the way.

Not surprisingly it was quite crowded up there when I arrived but I stuck it out and waited for people to disperse and I eventually got into a good position to shoot several rolls of film.

I spent about three quarters of an hour up on the roof of the Welcome building and then decided to head back down for a wander around.  I took a quick look in the shops in the Village and then indulged in a Grand Marnier crepe before heading off the the ACO office to have another try for the rest of my ACO pack.  I had decided not to bother with the 6.30 rendezvous and headed off instead to the nearby Dunlop Chicane to try and get some more pictures.
