Le Mans 2023 Ayse's Story

Page 7 - Wednesday 7th June - Arnage Practice

In the half hour between the end of the RTLM session and the start of the two-hour second free practice session we moved our chairs around from Indianapolis to a spot close to Arnage corner.  I spent a fair bit of time as I always do taking photographs and a few videos.  Ultimately I was disappointed with the shots I got, a theme which would persist through the rest of the week.

The two Ferraris had topped the times in qualifying as many expected but the Toyotas, Cadillacs and Porsches were close behind with the privateer Glickenhaus and Vanwall 3-4 seconds a lap adrift.  It was Jota again to the fore in LMP2 and the Richard Mille Ferrari in GTEAm.  The Hendrick Nascar Camaro was continuing to run 2-3 seconds a lap quicker that the GTEs.  Neither of the Tower or D'Station cares that had been badly damaged in free practice 1 made it out in qualifying or free practice 2.

As the session went on (with little or nothing to prove) we took the decision to leave the circuit a little early to miss the mass exit from the car park.  The car park was still very quiet and we faced no queues leaving.  Once out it was a case of just retracing our steps back following the reverse of the violet route by just looking for signage back to the main circuit and then branching off once we reached Arnage village.  It was a simple enough process and the traffic in Arnage wasn't too bad.  We arrived back at the hotel just after midnight whereupon it was time for bed in readiness to do it all over again tomorrow...
