Finally Back....!
So, here I am, sitting in my hotel room about half an hour from the circuit. After two wilderness years (three really since I was last here), I'm back at Le Mans for the 24 Hours. We came over last Thursday morning and enjoyed scrutineering in the Place on Friday and Saturday and then a wonderful day at the Auberge des Hunaudiรจres for the Test Day yesterday - two 'firsts' - first time at the Test Day and a new vantage point at the Auberge. After so many Le Mans events, doing something new is always a great pleasure and yesterday was no exception. A wonderful experience (and a great lunch!). There will be more on this in my 'story' in due course. I also renewed an old acquaintance with the artist Ray Toombs, whose work is extensively exhibited at the Auberge and had a nice chat there with a former Le Mans driver, Robin Donovan.
The weather has been variable, to say the least. Torrential 'non-sun' on Friday - we were fortunately under cover - and then blazing sunshine. Mostly dry though on Saturday and very nice weather yesterday. Today is a 'day of rest' with no real need to do anything much. James and Lauren join me tomorrow and we will no doubt do the ritual drive around the circuit and hopefully into the circuit for the pit walk. Then it will be on to the event proper on Wednesday.
For those who are here, those who are about to travel, and the poor souls who like me for the last two years will just be watching on the TV, I hope you all have a great Le Mans!
